# Upgrade to the new Fonoster

> The biggest update in Fonoster history: what changes, the three phases of the move to fonoster.ai, and when the old version shuts down.

> **The new version doesn't work with the old one.** Packages 0.30 and later (the SDK, the CLI and
> the Voice SDK) don't work with app.fonoster.com or `api.fonoster.com`. Keep the apps that run
> there on your current packages until you move them to fonoster.ai.

> **The old version shuts down soon.** We expect to turn off app.fonoster.com and
> `api.fonoster.com` in December, or early January at the latest. We'll announce the exact date.

This is the biggest update in Fonoster history. It changes too much to keep the old version
working, so nothing moves over for you. Instead, everyone moves in three phases, and your apps keep
running on the old version until you're ready.

## The three phases

**1. Phase 1: get to know the new version (now)**

Sign up at [app.fonoster.ai](https://app.fonoster.ai) and try it. These docs already describe
the new version. Your apps keep running on app.fonoster.com and `api.fonoster.com`; don't use
0.30 or later packages with them.

**2. Phase 2: move your apps**

Set up your agents, numbers and apps again on app.fonoster.ai and point your code at
`api.fonoster.ai`. The versions aren't compatible, but prompts and Voice apps look very
similar, so most of the work is moving settings. [Migrate from 0.27](https://docs.fonoster.com/migrate-from-0-27.md) lists
every change.

**3. Phase 3: the old version shuts down**

app.fonoster.com and `api.fonoster.com` turn off. The new version then moves back to
fonoster.com, and fonoster.ai keeps working as an alias, so you don't have to change your
code again.

## Before you move an app

* Create your account and workspace on [app.fonoster.ai](https://app.fonoster.ai).
* Add your vendor keys, then set up your agents, numbers, trunks and SIP agents again.
* Update your packages to 0.30 or later and point them at `api.fonoster.ai`. See

* Move your carrier's or Twilio's numbers to the new version last, once the app works there.
