The fonoster CLI manages a workspace from your terminal: applications, numbers, webhooks, call records and more. Commands are named <topic>:<command>, such as applications:create. Run any command with --help to see its flags.
This page covers the commands developers use. Operators of a self-hosted install also use separate tools to run the platform. See the Self-hosting section.

Install

The CLI is the @fonoster/ctl package on npm. It needs Node.js 22 or later.

Create an API key in the dashboard under API keys, then link your workspace. The CLI asks for the endpoint (keep api.fonoster.ai for Fonoster Cloud), the key ID and the secret:
The CLI saves the workspace and its key in ~/.fonoster/config.json and makes it the active workspace. Every other command runs against the active workspace.

Global flags

Every command accepts this flag:

Workspaces

workspaces:login asks for the endpoint, key ID and secret. Pass all three as flags to skip the questions, for example in CI:

API keys

See Workspaces, members and API keys.

Applications

Applications are your Autopilot agents and streams.

Create and update flags

applications:create and applications:update take the same flags. --agent makes the application an Autopilot agent, and --url makes it a stream. The fields are described in Autopilot configuration. --assistant and --flavor were renamed to --agent and --protocol in 0.30. The CLI refuses the old names with that hint.

Evaluate an agent

applications:eval runs an agent’s test cases. It’s marked experimental. It reads an eval file, not the plain agent file: the agent’s configuration and its testCases nest under intelligence.config. See Test your agent. Run the test cases and also save a JSON summary:

Providers

See Providers and models and Use your own vendor keys.

Numbers

sipnet:numbers:linkTwilioNumber has two flags for a self-hosted install: See Numbers and routing and Link a Twilio number.

Trunks

See Connect a SIP trunk.

SIP agents, domains and credentials

SIP agents are softphones and desk phones. The CLI calls them agents. See SIP agents (softphones).

Calls

sipnet:calls:create flags:
See Make outbound calls.

Webhooks

--event takes call.started, call.ended, call.failed, call_record.sealed or provider.deprecated. See Webhook events.

Call records

records:list flags: records:get and records:download flags:
See Read and verify call records.

Secrets

See Secrets.

MCP

mcp:configure adds Fonoster’s MCP server to Claude Desktop’s configuration, with the active workspace’s API key. It works on macOS and Windows. See Use Fonoster from an AI client (MCP).
